Ian Rankin
Ian Rankin
is the author of the Inspector Rebus series of crime novels. His
fifteenth Rebus novel, FLESHMARKET
ALLEY, has just been published by Little, Brown.
Rankin is
now the UK's number
one best-selling crime writer. His name is in the Guinness Book of
World Records for having
seven titles on The London Times best-seller's list at the same time.
His novels
are gaining
popularity in the U.S. due to his winning the Edgar Award for best
mystery novel of
2004 for his novel RESURRECTION
MAN. Rankin lives in Edinburgh with his wife and two sons.
During the
interview Ian and I discuss the rich literary tradition of Edinburgh. You
might be
surprised to find out who his neighbors are!
Inspector
Rebus is a fascinating character, and once you read FLESHMARKET ALLEY
you'll want to
go to the start of the series and read them from the beginning. Rebus
has aged and evolved into the man he is today.
Rankin's
popularity in the U.K. is astounding. There are
now Inspector Rebus tours available in Edinburgh, and Rankin is
currently writing a non-fiction
book which is his autobiography interwoven with the biography of
Inspector Rebus.
The book will also have black and white pictures of areas of Edinburgh
that appear in
the novels.
So sit
back and enjoy a conversation with a writer you'll be hearing a lot
more from in the years ahead. There's nothing quite like the joy of
discovering a writer you've heard of but not
read. You can add all of the Rebus novels to your nightstand, assuming
there's any room
left on it.
