Week of April 18, 2007 | Tawni O'Dell

We discuss SISTER MINE, published by Shaye Areheart Books.

Ms. O'Dell's first novel, BACK ROADS, was an Oprah pick in 2000. Her second novel, COAL RUN, was also a best seller. Both of these novels were told a male point of view.

Her new novel, SISTER MINE, is narrated by Shae-Lynn Penrose, a feisty character who has learned how to survive and thrive in a coal mining town.

The novel is a delight to read. It is filled with fascinating characters and surprising plot twists. Like Mr. Simmons, I was fascinated by Ms. O'Dell's approach to her craft. SISTER MINE is a winner.
